Genevra
In the 19th Century the noted bacteriologist and assayer John McGarvie-Smith established an Anthrax Vaccine Laboratory behind his cottage in Woollahra, Sydney. In the 21st Century we transformed the cluster of dilapidated buildings remaining on the site to a modern residence for the Jones family. The new building elements are very strong in modern expression, but at the same time touch the old buildings very gently, respectfully framing their setting. Genevra was a winner in the category of adaptive re-use in Woollahra Council Conservation Award 2008.
